How to track your weight well
- Weigh yourself at the same time, ideally first thing in the morning after using the toilet.
- Use the same scales on a hard, flat floor.
- Weigh 2 to 7 times a week and watch the trend, not single days.
Why the weekly trend matters
Your weight can move by 1 to 2 kg from one day to the next because of water, salt, food and hormones. The 7-day average and average change a week show what’s really happening.
Example
Someone who starts at 83.8 kg, weighs in weekly and reaches 80.8 kg six weeks later has lost 3 kg, about 0.5 kg a week, which is within the NHS guide of 0.5 to 1 kg a week.
