What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It keeps photos at roughly half the size of a JPG with similar quality, but many Windows PCs, websites and apps can’t open it.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Choose your HEIC photos (up to 30 at once).
- Pick JPG or PNG and the quality.
- Download each converted photo.
JPG or PNG?
| Format | Best for | File size |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos to share, upload or email | Small |
| PNG | Editing, or when you need lossless quality | Large |
Stop your iPhone saving HEIC
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you share by email or AirDrop to non-Apple devices are often converted automatically too.
Converted photos don’t keep location or camera details (EXIF data), which is good for privacy when sharing online.
