Common watermarks

Text Used for
CONFIDENTIAL Private business or personal documents
DRAFT Documents that aren’t final
COPY Copies of original certificates or IDs
SAMPLE Previews of paid templates or reports
For [purpose] only ID copies sent to one organisation, e.g. For visa application only

Adding a purpose and date to copies of ID documents makes them harder to reuse if they’re leaked.

Limits

The watermark uses a standard font, so it supports Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation. Text watermarks can be removed with PDF editing software, so they deter misuse rather than prevent it.
