The new TOEFL scale

Since January 2026, TOEFL iBT reports scores on a 1 to 6 scale in half-point steps, lined up with CEFR levels. For a transition period, score reports also show a comparable score on the old 0 to 120 scale.

Where the numbers come from

Concordance tables are approximate. Universities, employers and visa schemes set their own requirements, often including minimum scores for each section, so always check what they accept.
