How the award works

If you resign

Years of service Share of the award
Less than 2 Nothing
2 to under 5 One third
5 to under 10 Two thirds
10 or more Full award

Worked examples

7.5 years on SAR 10,000

Five years at half a month (SAR 25,000) plus 2.5 years at a full month (SAR 25,000) gives a full award of SAR 50,000. If the employee resigned, they’d receive two thirds: SAR 33,333.

Waiting for the 10-year mark

Someone at 9.5 years who resigns gets two thirds of their award. Staying six months more, to 10 years, gives the full amount, which can mean tens of thousands of riyals more.

Some resignations still qualify for the full award, including resignation due to force majeure, and women who resign within six months of marriage or three months of giving birth.

Frequently asked questions

How is end of service calculated in Saudi Arabia?

Half a month’s wage for each of the first five years, then a full month’s wage for each year after, based on your last wage.

Generally within a week of the contract ending if the employer ended it, or two weeks if you resigned.
