How to work out your hourly rate
Divide your yearly salary by the number of weeks in a year (52.14), then by the hours you work each week. For £30,000 at 37.5 hours a week: £30,000 ÷ 52.14 ÷ 37.5 = £15.34 an hour.
Using 52 weeks instead of 52.14 makes a small difference (£15.38 in this example). Payroll teams often use 52.14 because a year is 365 days, not 364.

Comparing two job offers
Offer A pays £32,000 for 40 hours a week. Offer B pays £30,000 for 35 hours. Per hour, A is £15.34 and B is £16.44, so B pays more for each hour you work, even though the salary is lower.
Is a £24,000 full-time job above the minimum?
At 37.5 hours, £24,000 works out at £12.27 an hour. That’s below the National Living Wage of £12.71 for workers aged 21 and over from April 2026, so the employer would need to raise the salary or cut the hours. At 35 hours it would be £13.15.
